Workers assemble massive excavation machinery that will cut through the earth to create the Tunél Emisor Oriente, one of Mexico’s most dramatic water infrastructure projects in 30 years. The seven meter wide, 62-kilometer long tunnel will double drainage capacity in the Valley of Mexico and aims to prevent serious floods. Lumbrero 0 (pictured) is the first of 24 deep shafts designed to provide ventilation and to allow the introduction of machinery in the tunnel.
